How to Create a Smart Trade

There are several ways to create a Smart Trade, choose one method to create a Smart Trade until you get comfortable with it and then try one of the other methods listed below:

Create a Smart Trade (Pickup Only)

  1. Click the New Smart Trade button on the toolbar. The New Smart Trade List dialog box will appear and is divided into three different columns: Criteria, Operator (is between, is, yes, etc.), and Value. Note that you can specify as many Criteria as you need and they are displayed by rows.
  2. Note: Another common way to start a Smart Trade if you will be trading away a trip is to click on that trip in your calendar, drag it on to My SkyNet Trades and drop it. Items 5 and 6 below will be automatically accomplished for you when starting the trade in this manner.

    Note: Click the Show/Hide Tips button at the bottom of the Smart Trade List dialog box or refer to the Criteria Definitions for more explanation on what the criteria selection means.

  5. You can then specify further Criteria by clicking the drop down arrow and selecting “All Nighter, Arrival Time, Avg. Hours per Day, etc.” Depending upon the Criteria selected, the Operator and Value will change.
  6. If you have a trip you want trade away for this Smart Trade, check the Trade away trips box and a list of your trips will display in the drop down box. Select the trip you want to trade away and if there is another trip to trade away, click the drop down box again to select the second trip to trade away. You can then specify whether you wish to trade away Any or Allof the selected trips in this single trade request.
  7. Note: We recommend you do NOT choose to trade away more than one trip with the Any option selected because you will lose the bulletin board post. Instead, create one trade with the first trip and then duplicate the trade for the other trips you wish to trade away.

  8. You can also check Monthly pay time must be greater than and specify the number.
  9. A Trade Board Post will automatically be created when you click OK. Verify the information is correct for E-Mail, Phone, and add any Comments.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Rename the Smart Trade if desired, then click Save in the Trade Pane Area.

When defining the Criteria for a Smart Trade, the trips that match the criteria will display in the Trips and Trade Display Pane. In the far right corner of the dialog box, Owned and Avail will be displayed. When the number of matching trips is below 10, the Available trips will turn yellow. When the number of matching trips is below 5, the Available trips will turn red.

Note that an All Nighter trip will display red in the timeline, if you want to exclude All Nighters, set a Criteria for All Nighter with the Operator is “N0”
If you add a Criteria and later decide you do not want it, click the Delete button next to the Criteria row.

Create a Trade Away Request for One Trip and Trade Into Criteria

  1. Click on My Trips in the Left Side Panel and locate the trip you want to Trade Away.
  2. Click on Trip, Trade Away.
  3. In the Trade Pane Area, click the Criteria link.
  4. Define the Criteria in the Smart Trade List dialog box. Notice that the “Post to bulletin board” is automatically checked.
  5. Click OK when completed.

You will now see the trade listed in the Trade Area of the Left Side Pane and it is defined with the Star icon.

Create a Trade Away Request for More Than One Trip and Trade Into Criteria

  1. Click on My Trips in the Left Side Panel and locate the trip you want to Trade Away.
  2. Click on Trip, Trade Away.
  3. To add another trip to Trade Away, click the Trade away trips button in the Trade Pane Area.
  4. Locate the trip to trade away in the My Trips Area of the Trips & Trades Display Pane.
  5. Drag and drop the trip down into the Trade Pane Area.
  6. Click the Go back to trade trips button in the Trade Pane Area.
  7. Note that if you drag a Trade Away or Trade Into trip in the Trade Pane Area and no longer want to trade that trip, click the Remove from trade button next to the trip.

  8. Continue the process above to add trips to Trade Away or Trade Into. When finished selecting the trips, in the Trade Pane Area, click Save.

Note: This type of trade WILL automatically create a Trade Board Post.
